Let’s begin-

Question1-

Does taking certain medications impact your ability to lose weight?

I am on 8 different pills at the moment (hoping to get off of most once I lose some weight).

Answer-

The question to ask is if certain medications will impact your metabolism i.e ability to burn fat or carbs.

The answer is yes. Certain medications can cause weight gain, i.e medications that include steroids.  In addition, if you have underlying health issues, they will impact your ability to burn fat as well.

You may need to speak to your primary care physician or read the labels to determine.

Question2-

I am curious about dehydration and how it may affect how I lose weight?

Either I drink a gallon of water or just 1 glass.. struggling to get a good balance.

Answer-

Hydration will impact your body’s ability to burn fat and carbs properly which will definitely impact your Lumen levels.

I recommend drinking water throughout the day. The importance is to never be thirsty.

Thirst is a sign that you have been dehydrated.

Question3-

What’s the best time to eat carbs for weight-loss

Thanks for the info. Any information would be helpful for me during my journey!

Answer-

This is a good question.  It is best to carb cycle, especially simple carbs. The best times to eat carbs is usually before workouts & earlier in the day.

Healthy complex carbs like blueberries can help you sleep well.

Question4-

What’s the difference between being in ketosis & burning fat for energy?

This is an excellent question. We often confuse this. We believe that our bodies run out of carbs and then create ketones. Well, it isn’t that simple.

Carbs are the body’s preferred source of fuel. Now, our bodies can burn fat and carbs for energy as needed and at that point you may not be in ketosis.

Let me explain, let’s say, I am doing zone 2 cardio, where my body primarily burn fat, I may still have stored glycogen that my body can use in the future. In fact, that’s the goal. To burn fat, then save stored glycogen for use when needed. For example, for intense exercise.

Nutritional ketosis is when you have used all carbs and your body starts to run on ketones. You can measure this using a ketone meter. I usually enter nutritional ketosis couple times a year to get the benefits that it provides.  However, I do not believe that  humans should  stay in this state.

Question5-

What is metabolic flexibility? How do we accomplish this?

The goal is to mostly  use fat at rest, but carbs as needed.  For example, upon waking, you should mostly burn fat, however, when you workout, especially when you cross the anaerobic zone, you should use carbs for the most part to fuel that workout.

Also, post a high carb meal, you should switch to carb burn temporarily.

The best tool on the market to accomplish this is Lumen.  You breathe into it and it reads your metabolism to let you know if you primarily burn fat or carbs.

Their nutritionists also give you guidance to follow to improve the flexibility of your metabolism.

Episode205- Why You May Be Working Out Too Late

Are You Working Out Too Late?

Welcome to another weekend short of The Matter Over Mind Experience

I am your host, Master Trainer & Weight Management Expert, Narado Zeco Powell

This weekend, I have a question for you

Are you working out too late?

I am talking about time of the day and how it impacts your health, sleep & results

Let’s begin

The best time to workout is whatever time you have to workout

So, even though, I will give you some options, don’t stress and only make changes if you need to or can

Timing Your workout is important  for many reasons

Let’s begin with sleep

When we train, our bodies raises adrenaline & cortisol levels especially when we train at high intensities

This means that later we exercise, the less time we have to lower these levels that can blunt melatonin production which can make it hard to fall & stay asleep

I generally find that if you have to workout in the evenings, light or zone 2 cardio seems to be more helpful

Regarding health & results, research tells us that early workouts, especially intensive workouts make the most out of our biology & psychology

Best time to workout is when you have time to workout, but keep in mind that working out earlier in the day can be more effective & improve sleep quality.

Enjoy your weekend fam!

Episode202- What Are Seed Oils & How Do They Impact Our Health

Welcome to another weekend short of The Matter Over Mind Experience

I am your host, Master Trainer & Weight Management Expert, Narado Zeco Powell

This weekend let’s talking about seed oils, what they are and how the impact your health

I will also give you a quick list of seed oils to look out for

Let’s begin

I am sure it’s no surprise to most people when I say seed oils are highly inflammatory

Highly inflammatory foods damage your gut

That means it can lead to gut permeability aka leads gut

We know by now that a damaged gut leads too energy, brain fog, autoimmune diseases and more!

So, my recommendation is to remove seed oils from your diet

Now, these are the most common seed oils to look out for:

  1. Vegatable Oils
  2. Canola Oils
  3. Soybean Oils
  4. Grapeseed Oils
  5. Sunflower Oils
  6. Corn Oils

FYI, removing seed oils isn’t the only thing you need to do to reduce inflammation, but if you haven’t yet, it’s a good start
